Dismiss the troublemakers. They dont want to be there, and they will end up on welfare anyways.
I would have though the top two problems were a lack of funding and teachers who don't give a rat's ass about their students. Silly me.
A lot of young people now a days seem to be on a constant state of playing a video game. If they are not on their IPod, cell phone or internet they are despondent. Most have no respect for adults or one another. This is the result of both parents gone 8 hours a day and feeling the need to make up for it with electronics and toys. You just have to listen to the opinions from this generation about the Canada pension fund to realise that they could care less about their parents generation and want nothing to do with supporting their retirement.

It would be interesting to TURN OFF THE POWER and watch how this generation reacts. They would be lost!

Interesting that almost half of the problems involved drugs or alcohol yet some folks immediately try to shift the blame onto funding and teachers. Maybe the RCMP had something to do with it as well. Could it also be the potholes on the streets. Put the blame where it belongs. Kids making poor choices.
IMO... "This is the result of both parents gone 8 hours a day and feeling the need to make up for it with electronics and toys." Very unfair comment.... Most parents do this so they can survive and support a family. While I agree there has been an increased dependancy on technology, the days of letting your kids roam the neighbourhood like we did when we were kids are gone. A 10 year old kid was assaulted and robbed at the park last week and his mother was nearby. I beleive people make there own desicions including teenagers and I agree on the respect comment to a degree but dont condemn the parents for trying to support their families and protect them from the harsh realitiy of the streets.

Go back thirty years and I'll bet that you could still use the exact same headline.
interceptor..... I agree
50 due to alcohol, 222 due to drugs. Yeah the war on drugs has been a great success. When do you think we'll come to our senses and try a different approach? Maybe when more politicians lose their kids to drugs.
The problem is that there are no real consequences to the students that commit or are involved in these events.
