Prince George, B.C.- If the saying “red sky at night, sailor’s delight” rings true, then today should be a fabulous one for anyone on the water. However, the   spectacular red sunset over Prince George last night was most likely the result of the smokey haze from the Greer Creek fire than any nautical weather predictor.
As of last evening, the Greer Creek fire, 30 km south west of Vanderhoof, was 5,500 hectares in size. There were 124 personnel on the ground, 8 helicopters  and 42 pieces of heavy equipment for a total of 251 people trying to contain this blaze.

The evacuation alert remains in effect for 38 residences south of Nulki Lake

I flew over that area a couple of years ago and it's a mess!
If the wind changes and blows the fire to the south,it is going all the way to Williams Lake!
Seems to me the government is downplaying this fire.
Mind you,if Pat Bell says it's not so bad and only burning in the cut blocks,it must be true?
I sure feel better knowing he is on the job!

If you go to the interactive fire map on the above linked site, there are three "small" fire perimeters mapped to the north east of the main fire. They are not visible until you zoom in. One is along the Fraser, about 1.5 to 2 km long just east of Vanderhoof, another on the southern shore of Tachick Lake and the third at the east end of Nulki Lake.

Don't know if those are wind spread fires from the Greer fire.
Thanks gus!
Those aren't current fires and the Fraser is no where near Vanderhoof.
