Prince George-  A record $31,000 was raised for CNC students at the fourth annual Global Gourmet fundraising gala recently.

More than 170 people attended the sold-out event, which featured cuisine from around the world prepared by the college’s Professional Cook students.

“The generosity of the amazing people in this community never ceases to amaze me,” said CNC communications manager Randall Heidt. “We surpassed last year’s record by more than $11,000, which was very surprising considering the economy and the fact that we had 130 fewer people this year because we moved the event into the Atrium at the college.”

All of the money raised will go towards equipment for students in classrooms and labs. “That’s my favourite part about this fundraiser. The donors actually get to buy equipment that will go right into the students’ hands,” Heidt said.

The event raised $15,493 for Nursing , $4,536 for Dental, $3,475 for Professional Cook, $2,977 for Trades,  $2,680 for Med Lab, $1,600 for Natural Resources and Environmental Technology, $170 for New Media and $116 for Chemistry equipment.

“The support of our gracious donors is very much appreciated and goes a long way toward providing students with the tools they need to succeed,” said Heidt. “Buy your tickets early next year, as this year’s event sold out six weeks early.”
