Prince George, BC- The City of Prince George has a long way to go before its Downtown District Energy system becomes a reality, however, it has received an award for it just the same.

Each year, the Canadian District Energy Association selects a community that displays “visionary leadership” in encouraging community sustainability through district energy. Past winners include Halifax, Calgary, Vancouver, and North Vancouver.  This year, the community is P.G.

“This award recognizes the fact that it is not easy for communities to implement change and that it takes municipal leaders with significant vision to be able to take a path less traveled,” said Richard Damecour, Vice Chair, Canadian District Energy Association Board.

The City has taken some steps  towards development of a wood fibre-based downtown district energy system using the process already in place at  the Lakeland Mills site on River Road.
The proposed downtown district energy system is subject to successful completion of a federal environmental assessment process and alternate approval process.

Your tax dollars at work folks. The leadership of fools.
Cheers
Hey, just think if Nobel Prizes were given away before projects are proven, then Jaques Principe would have received a Nobel Peace prize for his development work on the personal intergalactic travelling portal.
Good point Gus, kind of adds a lot of credibility to the award.

ah I got an idea, we build this dome, and capture all the heat and we can live in our own tropical paradise. Solves the air polution issue.
Gus
Nobel prizes are given away for doing nothing.
Obama got one just a couple of weeks in office.
More memoirs than accomplishments
Thanks for that reminder RIP etc.

That is why that Nobel prize awarded to Obama was a very controversial one. He admitted himself that he saw it as a call to action since he did not feel he had yet done anything to deserve it.

I doubt that this city will be as humble when they give thanks.

The "visionary" leadership in this case had federal $$$$$$$$ visions at the end of the rainbow. That might be considered by some to be visionary ... but not in the sense the word is nornally used.
The Community Energy System is a bloody sham. It will cost millions and give us nothing in return.

The City should be in line for **The dumbest Project of the year award**

In fact that could win enough dumb Projects of the year awards to paper Rodgers office.
There should be an award for city council coming to their senses and canning the community energy project. Spending money to buy heat from Lakeland mills and piping it to city hall is just plain dumb. Only gov't could come up with ideas like that.
I guess Anderson can shut the mill down now and make even more money from the taxpayer. He'll only have to haul enough wood to keep the fire burning and he can lay off about 35 people. We will be footing the bill, but it won't be heating our homes. I have had experience with heating a liquid and using it for a home - - trust me - - it is very expensive; even with a big fire. Lakeland can close up any time and then the City will be forced to buy the mill. Sounds pretty dumb to me, or are Anderson and Rogers planning on being alive forever? They should keep in mind that the average age for a man in PG is 74. Start the countdown and see how long you have left.
