Prince George, B.C.-  Prince George Fire Centre crews have responded to 23 new fire starts since Thursday due to high temperatures, low relative humidity and frequent lightning strikes.

Although none of these new fires threaten any communities, seven were human-caused.

A new fire at Morkhill Creek, approximately 40 kilometres northwest of McBride, is estimated at 150 hectares in size. The fire is not threatening any homes or buildings and is located in an area with limited access; however, fire officials will continue to monitor it closely.

So far this season, the Prince George Fire Centre has responded to 175 wildfires, with 8,630 hectares burned. The fire danger rating is currently moderate to high in the majority of the fire centre, with areas of extreme fire danger rating in the Dawson Creek fire zone and Vanderhoof.
