Piping the Haggis into the ballroom at the Coast Inn of the North

More than 200 people attended a Robbie Burns Dinner fundraiser hosted by the Excalibur Theatre Arts Company at the Coast Inn of the North this evening...

For more than 200 years, suppers have been held to honour Scotland's best-loved poet.  This is the 4th annual dinner hosted by Excalibur to mark Burns' birth on January 25th, 1759.

Excalibur's Bonnie Mathers says her Company has a large highland-dance base, spurring on the family event that will go towards funding her theatre group's production of "Cats" in October.

Former City Councillor Dan Rogers was the Master of Ceremony, getting a chuckle when he told those in attendance, Burns' Dinner tradition called for a lengthy introduction...which he could certainly provide.

After being piped to the front of the ballroom, the Haggis was toasted.

And Dave Hanning offered up the Selkirk Grace that is part of the ceremony, in addition to reciting Burns' poem, "To A Haggis", that leads to the slicing of the Haggis.

The evening also featured a silent auction, with Excalibur dancers performing after the meal.
