The mayhem began when police officers patrolling the Hart Shopping Complex spotted a stolen pick-up truck being driven in the mall parking lot around 2:30pm yesterday afternoon...

A string of accidents, two injuries, and a police tracking dog later...and RCMP finally had their "man" in custody.

Staff-Sergeant Doug Aird says police attempted to stop the pick-up, but backed off when the driver ran a stop sign and drove into oncoming traffic, as he headed north on Highway 97.

Aird says the suspect vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of the highway and Austin Road, hitting a van being driven by a city woman and her baby daughter.  The woman hit her head on the drivers' side window, but the infant was unharmed.  According to Aird, the suspect jumped from the stolen truck, leaving it drifting onto the shoulder of the road.

Two officers pursued the suspect on foot through several neighbourhood yards.  But police say he located another pick-up with the keys in the ignition and drove back out onto Highway 97, southbound this time.  When officers attempted to stop the stolen pick-up, one police cruiser was hit.  Officers again backed off, but say the suspect side-swiped a car near Wagon Trail Road.  The female driver received a minor neck injury.

A police officer patrolling Shady Valley Road a short time later was stopped by a resident who reported a suspicious male.  With the help of a police tracking dog, the culprit believed responsible was located hiding on a shed roof.

The suspect is facing numerous charges included two counts of dangerous driving causing injury.

I can only hope and pray that the RCMP read him his rights and gave him a quarter to call his lawyer.

There is usually a good reason he is known to police.

So, now it's up to the lawyers and judges to carry out justice and put this nuisance away.

If they don't, I believe it's time to start dealing with the lawyers and judges.

No more excuses. Percy
If we follow the trend set earlier this week when a fine mentor was given a conditional discharge after killing two people in a traffic crash, this guy should get a pat on the head and sent home also. Sorry state of affairs.
>But police say he located another pick-up with the keys in the ignition and drove back out onto Highway 97, southbound this time.<

Some people are still leaving their vehicles unattended with the keys in the ignition?

Nice going! The job of the police isn't made any easier by that kind of stupidity...providing the culprit with a convenient get-away vehicle!
I worked with a guy a few years ago that always left his keys in his car ignition parked on 1st avenue.

One night I noticed his car driving away and asked him if his son had come to pick up the car. He said no, so we called the cops, hoped in my truck and gave chase. When we got to Cameron Street Bridge his car was stopped for the red light with a police cruiser behind it. One cop came up the drivers side and the other up the passanger side opened up the passanger door and pulled out a 14 year old kid by the scruff of the neck.

Cops roughed him up a little bit and put a scare into the kid taking him down to the police station. Buddy didn't lay any charges because it was his fault for leaving his keys in the ignition.

I think when you run from the police your sentence should be brought to a whole new level.
SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE WITH A BASE BALL BAT WHEN HE GOT OUT OF TRUCK,GOOD OLD TIME JUSTICE....THE MODERN LAWYER-JUDGE KIND AIN'T WORKIN.
Hey, GIT, it was a good thing you weren't there with your baseball bat to do your "citizen's justice!"

You would have gotten 7 years in the hoosegow while the 'young man' would have laughed his head off being free to do whatever pleases him!

Keep your hands in your pockets and a smile on your face!

PARTLY RITE DIP, ONLY I WOULD HAVE GOT 25 YRS. CAUSE HE WOULDN'T BE LAUGHIN!
