Prince George, B.C. UNBC has  a new Athletic Director, one who will  fill the gap left when Len McNamara and the University parted ways nearly a year ago.

He is Jason Kerswill, a decorated athlete, experienced sport administrator, and passionate advocate for university athletics.

Jason comes to UNBC after spending five years in Calgary with a prestigious sports school, most recently as Director of Athletics, overseeing high-performance academies in four sports. He also has a master’s degree in Human Kinetics with a specialization in sport administration. While completing a bachelor’s degree at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Kerswill won two national basketball championships and was named an Academic All-Canadian four times.

“Beyond his experience as a player, coach, and administrator, it was Jason’s passion and his knowledge about the powerful role athletics can play at a small university that really impressed us,” says Mark Dale, UNBC Provost and Chair of the selection committee. “With a strong background in athletic policy, program development, fundraising, and community relations, we’re confident that Jason will foster the continued growth and development of UNBC Athletics and its close ties with the community.”

The Director of Athletics and Recreation is responsible for the management of Athletics and Recreation and its various programs, activities, and services at the varsity, intramural, club, and recreational levels. In addition to fostering connections with the community and community-based organizations, the Director also represents UNBC with provincial and national sport organizations.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to continue building an athletic tradition at UNBC that is rooted in academic and athletic excellence but also connected to the world outside of the campus,” says Kerswill,  “Through my experiences as a student-athlete in rural Nova Scotia, I understand and appreciate the positive effect a small university can have on its students and the community as a whole. Athletics is one of the ways the effect can be strengthened.”
Kerswill moves to Prince George with his family next month and officially starts his new position on August 23rd.

His picture doesn't look to athletic to me. I mean isn't that what he should be.
5 years with a prestigious sports school in Calgary. I guess this school doesnt have a name. Wonder why. One would think that if it was prestigious it would want to get its name out there. Hmmmmmmmmm.
Just how does an athlete look? I guess it depends if you are a football player or tiddlywinks champ.
Look at the mans face. It clearly shows he is fat simple as that. I say get on a treadmill buddy or give me the job b....
You really have to consider the input of some of the serial posters on this site.
If there is some way to find a negative they will.
I guess their mothers never taught them that if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all.
Well look at the man. I mean they pay these people 50 grand a year for what. In a place like Prince George where good jobs are hard to find. They give the job to some over educated fat man who is what supposed to run the athletic dept give me break man geez. I wonder if he smokes too.
Good luck on the job, it will be interesting to see where UNBC athletics go now, whether more funding is given to general fitness or whether the powerhouse UNBC basketball teams will get the lions share of the funding
It will go nowhere because we got pillsbury dough boy here training them. Have another hot dog and fries with that yah.
We had the right man for the job, did wonders for the Spruce Kings and the same for UNBC. It is our loss.
