Edmonton RCMP Look For Help To Find Missing Couple

Edmonton - The RCMP is asking for the public’s help in a missing persons case involving Marie Ann McCann, 77, and Lyle Thomas McCann, 78, who were reported missing by their family on July 10. The RCMP began an investigation at that time which unfortunately to date has been unsuccessful in locating them. They were last seen on a surveillance camera purchasing gas in St. Albert on July 3, 2010.
On July 5th, a 1999 motor home was found burned near Edson. RCMP and Edson Fire Dept. attended and at that time the investigation focused on identifying and contacting the vehicle owners. This was unsuccessful.
On July 10, family members reported that the McCanns had failed to arrive at a pre-arranged meeting in B.C., and that the family had not been in contact with them since July 3, 2010.
The investigators linked the two reports and it became apparent that this was a serious situation. The McCann family was informed of this development immediately. The “K” Division Major Crimes Unit then assumed the lead role in the case.
Since that time the RCMP has taken a number of steps in the investigation including:
• An aerial search with the RCMP helicopter of 100 square miles
• Interviews and re-interviews with witnesses
• Electronic searches of the McCann’s cell phone usage and checks on their financial activity
• Searches by police service dog
• Extensive ground search of the area surrounding the burned motorhome by civilian Search and Rescue teams from Brazeau, Parkland and Hinton.
• The RCMP Forensic Identification Section is engaged in this investigation.
• The Fire Investigator’s office has been brought in to provide their expertise in further examination of the burned motor home.
At this point, the focus is on finding the McCanns. The RCMP needs the public’s help in doing so and asks that they call the RCMP if they have any information on either of these vehicles or have seen the McCann’s at any time since July 3, 2010. We need information Marie Ann McCann, aged 77 and her husband Lyle Thomas McCann, aged 78 and a 1999 green and white Gulfstream motor home (prior to July 5th) and a Hyundai Tucson, light green, ZPK 289.
