Regional District Explores Options for Rural Schools
By 250 News
Prince George, B.C.- The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and School District 57 have received $10,000 in grant funding from the School Community Connections Program to explore the feasibility of a Neighbourhood Centre of Learning model for Nukko Lake, Hixon and Giscome. The project proposes to take an inventory of existing services provided in each respective community and determine if those services could be located out of each of the three school sites. The three schools dodged the bullet this year when the School District looked at closures to help balance the School District's budget. The major saving grace for each of the three is the fact students would face long bus rides to alternate facilities. The inventory will also identify the potential to locate new or different services that would be suitable in a Neighbourhood Learning Centre. A report on the project is expected in November.

i think, these comumnities need a central drawing card, and the RD, stepping in might be the answer.
How about a building that can house the, kindergarden, Grade 1,2,3 and 4, a community resource centre, Community gymnasium and function space, a community meeting room.
The building will then get full use, year round. The cost of operating the building is split between the RD and SD. The cost of the structure is owned by one public owner, and the other leases the space.
