Prince George, B.C. – The recent start of new construction at Simon Fraser Lodge may signal further changes at the facility and the only way it can go is “up”.
Last week, demolition of the former veterans wing, which had 4 bed wards, got underway to make way for construction of a two storey wing that will be able to handle residents who have more complex issues.
Simon Fraser Lodge Executive Director Jeff Renaud says the new $6 million dollar facility will be complete in the spring of 2011. In the meantime, some residents have been moved into a newer area of Simon Fraser Lodge, and others have been moved temporarily to Rainbow Park Lodge until construction is complete.
The construction will result in a net loss of 12 beds.

Despite the size of the lot which houses Simon Fraser Lodge, the facility still has an opportunity to expand and increase its capacity. The upgrade to the “Oak” wing of the facility in 2002, included placement of footings that would allow for the addition of floors to that wing.
