Special travel case for bid documents was made of beetle enhanced wood
Prince George, B.C. - The Prince George bid submitted to the Canada Games Council’s selection committee for the 2015 Canada Winter Games certainly had the “wow” factor .
The bid binders, which carry all the details of the Prince George’s plan to host the 2015 Games, were made of sparkly “ice-looking” material (which the bid committee says is carbon neutral). The binders were then nestled in a box that was resting on a custom cut toboggan.
That toboggan, and its precious cargo, was then encased in a special travel case made of beetle “enhanced” wood, bearing two cedar carvings (by Peter Lyndon of the Cheslatta Carrier Nation) a stylized maple leaf, the City of Prince George insignia, and the phrase “We are winter”.

Co-Chair of the Prince George Bid Committee, Les Waldie, says the Selection Committee has called the bid submission package “exquisite.”
The contents of the binders detail this City’s plan for hosting the Games, but the details will not be disclosed just yet as the City of Prince George is still in a competitive situation with Kamloops and Kelowna.
Next week, the City will reveal some of the plans it has for the next phase of the bid process, namely the Selection Committee’s visit to Prince George on August 9th. The City has planned several events for that day and is offering free transit to allow people to attend as many events as possible want without worrying about parking, or possible vehicle emissions.

The Canada Winter Games will bring thousands of athletes to the hosting city, and tens of thousands of spectators, the economic spin off is said to be in the 70 to 90 million dollar range.

There is a need for 4,000 to 6,000 volunteers, and the Selection Committee will be looking to see if people support the Games by how many pre-register to volunteer. Anyone interested in volunteering can show that support by signing up at any of the following locations:
Four Seasons Pool
- Aquatic Centre
-Prince George Public Library or Nechako branch
-City Hall Service Centre, or Community Services Desk
-YMCA
-Northern Sports Centre
-Le Cercle des Canadiens Francais

The "spin off" will be 70 to 90 million dollars, eh? And where do these millions go? Will they benefit the unemployed or the minimum wage workers or will they fatten the bottom lines of corporations providing food, accommodation, infrastructure and such?
And who will pay the millions in direct costs of sponsoring the "games"? Maybe costs will just be added to Prince George's growing debt to be paid down...with interest...by future taxes.
Let's be polite and call this "malarky".
