Prince George, B.C.- The City of Prince George is following the lead of the Ministry of Forests and Range, and banning all   open burning as of noon Thursday. This includes back yard recreational fires.
Earlier today, the Ministry of forests and Lands announced a ban on all open burning would take effect noon Thursday, and will include all campfires. That ban is in effect throughout most of the province except the Kootenays.
However, the Ministry does not have jurisdiction within local communities, hence the declaration from Prince George Fire Chief Jeff Rowland.
Chief Rowland says the ban will remain in effect until further notice because of the dry conditions in the area.

With all this concern about "backyard fires" it is impossible to elicit any official concern for bonfires built by revellers on the edge of forest in a gravel pit on Ferguson Lake Road. These are fed with old wooden pallets, not twigs. Police don't care. Fire department will not respond without police presence and Forestry has a "your call is important to us" recording. Bylaw officers on a weekend? Forgeddaboudit.
Last year, during a similar ban, no one would respond to campers at a popular nature reserve who blatantly cooked over an open fire under a sign reading "No fires allowed".
Until such bans are enforced for everyone they remain symbolic nonsense.
