Prince Rupert, B.C.- The new $19.5 million Acropolis Manor residential care facility, Summit Residences and adult day care has been officially opened in Prince Rupert. The facility will benefit Prince Rupert seniors who need 24-hour nursing care and health services.
The $19.5 million project was funded through a partnership between the Province, through Northern Health ($12.7 million), the NWRHD ($6.8 million) and the City of Prince Rupert, which provided the land and waived permit fees. It adds 61 residential care beds and 15 new assisted living units to the facility, along with a new adult day centre.
The Province is also providing $247,500 in annual operational funding for 15 assisted living apartments, operated in partnership with BC Housing, through Independent Living BC (ILBC). ILBC is a housing-for-health program where tenants pay 70 per cent of their after-tax income for their units. Residents receive two meals a day, weekly housekeeping and linen services, 24-hour emergency response, personal care services and recreational and social opportunities. Assisted living apartments add to the current range of housing and care options available to seniors by providing a middle option between home support and residential care.
Other features include two suites dedicated to palliative care, and three new respite care beds for patients who need only short-term convalescent care or a respite for their family caregivers. The Royal Canadian Legion Pacific Branch 27 donated $20,000 to furnish the palliative care suites and respite rooms. The adult day care centre can accommodate up to 35 clients per week.
