Verdict is Guilty for Woman in Alexa Middelaer Death

Delta, B.C.- The 58 year old woman accused of running down 4 year old Alexa Middelaer and her Aunt, Daphne Johnson in May of 2008,  has been found guilty of the four counts she was facing.
Carol Berner of Delta,  has been found guilty of impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Alexa and her aunt were standing on the roadside in May of 2008, feeding a horse, when they were struck by Berner’s vehicle.
Alexa died in hospital, her aunt suffered severe injuries and would be in hospital for a month.
Judge Peder Gulbransen ruled Berner had “exercised poor judgment by driving on a road close to her home at a speed of about 90 km/h and ignoring speed bumps.”

Berner will be sentenced at a later date

I cheer the guilty verdict of today!!!

Sadly, the verdict doesn’t bring Alexa back so let’s try to make a positive change in her memory and try to change the attitude out there about the acceptability of consuming alcohol and then driving.

Let’s turn our sadness in to action and “Back the Bus”. Help the Middelaer’s raise enough money to fund mobile impaired driving investigation labs that will get impaired drivers off our roads and save lives.

Maybe the next life saved will be that of your daughter, brother, mother or best friend so let’s all get on board and www.BacktheBus.org !!!!

I was at the scene as I was working very close, I tell you this woman deserves a Life Sentence and not just a 10 yr do 2 sentence for good behaviour... Lawyers stay out and leave it to the justice system.. This is coming from someone who took someones life and did my 24yrs for it. you do the crime you do the time... you took a sweet girls life, so now we take your life...
