Verdict is Guilty for Woman in Alexa Middelaer Death

Delta, B.C.- The 58 year old woman accused of running down 4 year old Alexa Middelaer and her Aunt, Daphne Johnson in May of 2008, has been found guilty of the four counts she was facing.
Carol Berner of Delta, has been found guilty of impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Alexa and her aunt were standing on the roadside in May of 2008, feeding a horse, when they were struck by Berner’s vehicle.
Alexa died in hospital, her aunt suffered severe injuries and would be in hospital for a month.
Judge Peder Gulbransen ruled Berner had “exercised poor judgment by driving on a road close to her home at a speed of about 90 km/h and ignoring speed bumps.”
Berner will be sentenced at a later date
