Prince George, B.C.- The Conference Board of Canada  says  consumer confidence in the economy has dropped for the second straight month.
The latest survey, taken  July 8-18th,  showed the biggest drop was in B.C.,  down 12.5 points to 78.9.  That drop was the steepest decline in the country.
The national index fell  by 3.7 points to 80.0 after dropping 5.7 points in June.
A ratinig of 100 would  match the level of confidence consumers had in 2002.

I guess the HST has no part in this, does it?
No way, the HST couldn't ahve anything to do with it....
Mr Campbell said it wasn't going to cost me any more to live...
I would never call him a liar but he spout crap from his mouth....
It's going to drop a whole hell of a lot more with the HST, my Telus bill went up $4.76 due to HST. Can't wait till the other bills come in to see how much more tax I'm paying for this so called neutral tax that's not going to cost me more. To compensate for the rise in bills I guess there will be no more dining out, fewer haircuts and shopping for needless things. I wonder who's going end up hurting in the long run.
Here is a thought, the downtown business thinks the HST is a great thing...maybe if we stopped shopping there, and I already have, they might change their attitude and if they complain to Campbell maybe the tax will be repealed.....because we the common folk sure aren't going to make any impact on the criminal one....
As I said from the get go, this tax will cost consumers anywhere from $500.00 to $2000.00 per year depending on how they spend thier money.

A tax grab pure and simple. The Liberals think that we are all STUPID, thats why they try to push these things through.

Even with over 700,000 signatures against this tax they are still forging ahead. They expect us to forgive and forget. I for one have no intention of letting them off the hook on this one.

Recalls will start getting organized, and some will start as early as this November. Anyone can start a recall, and it seems a number of people across the Province intend to do just that.

Bell, Bond, and Rustad, are busy making all kinds of announcements to try and convince us that they are doing a great job. Its not going to work.

Bell, Bond, and Rustad, had over 18000 people sign the petition, and there could have been a hell of a lot more.

They need to qet their head out from under, and start to listen to their constituents, or they will be history.

Have a nice day.
Our taxes have to come from somewhere if they aren't coming from business. )Es this will slow down recovery and the economy on the shortrun but probably do nothing in the long run.
Are there any business people on this forum who can shed light on how it helps them? Small business (aka the Chamber) supports this too.
PS I just got a haircut and it didn't go up the full 7%.
Don't forget the carbon tax bs http://wattsupwiththat.com/
It is interesting that consumer confidence decreasing is seen as a negative thing. Remember, the reason we got into the pickle is because too many were buying things they could not afford because credit was to easily provided, especially for big ticket items such as larger and larger houses that we really do not need other than to boost our egos and play keep up with the Jones' games.

So the bounce back is a bit too fast maybe and some are recognizing it. Good! Maybe some have learned the lesson after all. There might be hope yet.
As far as taxes goes, there has been a tax shift. Income taxes and business taxes have dropped and user fees have gone up.

Whether that is a good way of doing it, only time will tell. I do not think it is a good approach to taxation because the poorer segment of society will have a heavier proportional burden. However, we need the money to spend on things that governments spend money on.

We can cut back on games and other fun things and just build police stations and jails. It will make for a really advanced country on the international scene and a fun one to live in.
I'm a business person on this forum, turtle_mapper, and aside from now making one tax calculation instead of two, the HST sure HASN'T helped me at all. All it's done is make three of the the things I sell, and two of the services I provide, 7% more expensive to my customers. Some of whom seem to think I should swallow the tax, since things like my BC Hydro bill which were formerly taxed at 7% PST, which was not an Input Tax Credit, now will be under HST.

They're forgetting about Hydro's 'rate rider', which has effectively wiped out any benefit the HST confers there. And the Carbon Tax increase. And my Property Taxes, which were up again this year. The annual bill for that latter is now nearly twice what I originally paid for the property itself! And then there's water, and other utilities, and... all UP. Again.

And that I now have to come up with 7% more on each payment I make for the raw materials my business purchases. Yes, I know it's an Input Tax Credit, recoverable out of the HST I collect on my Sales, but I still have to come up with it first, every time I write out the cheque for my purchases.

What most people on here fail to realise is that the taxes our governments collect are already far and away more than enough to fund all the actual services we receive from governments.

That there is needless waste and mis-management in the day to day affairs of every government is a given ~ we all know it occurs, and it sickens most of us.

What would sicken us a whole lot more would be if we only knew the real purpose and destination of most of our tax money. Which would make the visible waste and mis-management amounts we're more or less aware of look like chump change.

We need some proper bookkeeping in government. Now. Before there's any more demand for taxes. If we have to use Recall in the Fall to get that, then lets get organised and do what needs to be done.
