Surgical Wait Times Addressed

In the CEO Report to the Northern Health Board, CEO Malcolm Maxwell says “We have been focused in the last month and a half on the agreement to address waiting times for certain aspects of medical care.”  

While heart surgery is not offered in the Northern Health Region Maxwell told the Northern Health Board "We have been working to improving the movement of our patients through that system.”

Maxwell says there have been some gains here in orthopedic surgery “We will be able to show a significant increase in the number of hip and knee replacements completed this year, but recognize that as the population grows older, there will be significant demands.”
The recent announcements of computerized diagnostic imaging and archiving, is a step on the road to co-coordinating information throughout the region to reduce wait times.
