Vancouver, B.C.- Attorney General Mike de Jong  is not in a position to confirm today that there will be a public inquiry into the investigation and prosecution of William Pickton.

The Attorney General made the comments following the Supreme Court of Canada’s unanimous decision to uphold the conviction of  Pickton on the deaths of six  women;  Sereena Abotsway, Mona Wilson, Angela Joesbury, Brenda Wolfe, Georgina Papin and Marnie Frey, who had disappeared from Vancouver’s east side.

de Jong says while it is gratifying to know the convictions will be upheld, he says it a difficult day for the families of the victims “This is also a day when one needs to be mindful of the pain and anguish felt by the families of the victims.”

De Jong is hopeful there will be a decision soon on the calling of a public inquiry into the Pickton investigation. He says both the RCMP and the Vancouver police have completed reports on the investigation of the pig-farm murders, and his office will need to review those reports. “There are very compelling arguments for why a detailed examination should take place” says deJong  but the final decision is one that will be made by the Lieutenant Governor in Council on the advice of the Cabinet.

“I think there are very compelling reasons to take a very comprehensive look  at all aspects of the investigation.”

The Attorney General says there is a certain urgency to have a public inquiry sooner rather than later. “I think there is urgency for a variety of reasons. The families of the victims, for many of them, there are still unanswered questions and to the extent that an examination of what took place can fill in some of the blanks is another argument in favour of conducting that kind of examination or inquiry.

There are another 20 counts which need to be dealt with, and Crown Council   said earlier today that with the 6 convictions being upheld, Crown  will move toward staying those charges.

Every lawyer or lawyers needing more money says the judge erred in this or that. Why don't we jusy hang the SOB and the lawyers can move on to another gravy train. There's no doubt what was going on on that farm so please stop the screwing around by the dumbest justice system in the galaxies. This is unbelievable! Get on it you elected conservatives and apply the law! This is a federal matter and you are the responsible people to see that justice is done 'in a timely manner'. This is way overdue.
