Prince George, BC- There are only a few more days  to  submit  your comments online on the draft Prince George Active Transportation Plan.

The online survey will close   at the end of business day this Friday.

Active Transportation is defined as any form of human-powered travel, such as walking, cycling, roller blading, skiing, and the use of mobility-assisted devices.

Aside from the health and social benefits, Active Transportation also reduces the transportation impact on the local environment, economy, and city infrastructure.

The Active Transportation Plan brings together 12 years of previous studies on the City’s pedestrian, cycle, trail, and transit networks, and recommends standards, policies, programs and new links to create one safe and comprehensive system.

The draft report was approved by Prince George City Council on July 5th.  You can access the full report  by clicking here,

Your feedback will be considered before the  plan is finalized  this fall.  You can submit your online comments by clicking here.

Here is a Active Transportation Plan Comment.
Fix the south bound bike lane down the hart highway. The corners by Raven Truck Accessories and downhill from the scales are death traps for cyclists.

I dare the honorable mayor and counsel to ride bicycles down the hart from the Hart Wheel Inn to at least Parkhill Center between 08:00 and 09:30.
They won' for 3 reasons:
1. Limited opportunity to toot their own horn or photo op
2. it would take effort and possibly some sweat
3. it would prove that it is extremely dangerous riding a bike down that road.

I was very disappointed to see them fix the hart pavement but not address either of those extremely dangerous curves. As an experienced cyclist, those were the scariest part of any ride.

The choice is to cross back and forth across the highway or stay on the pedestrian sidewalk of the north bound side. Even though it is legal for a bicycle to take over or completely occupy a single lane of a multiple lane highway, many motor vehicle operators do not know that and may get "road rage" at the cyclist(s).
If we had designated dirt bike trails PG would be a dirt biking meca of sorts... we have huge potential in that area unmatched almost anywhere.
we have designated dirt bike trails.
Every unpaved road, many paved roads with little traffic or at least few visits by the blue and whites yellow stripe pants, and the bush is ripped up all over the place from dirt bikers and ATV's.

"If" designated trails were adhered to and the rest of the bush was left pristine, I would agree with your proposal. As it is, it seems that off road motor sport enthusiasts tend towards thrashing and trashing the wilderness rather than appreciating it.
