Fire Fighters Make Progress on Some Fires

Williams Lake, B.C. -There are now 112 fires burning in the Cariboo fire centre. There are a number of fires which have been grouped together in a "complex". Each complex has been assigned a special incident management team.
Meldrum Complex
Located South of Meldrum Creek there are a few fires of note that cover a combined area of 18,000 hectares, or 180 square kilometres. . This fire has not crossed the Fraser River, or Highway 20. If conditions permit, crews will be conducting burn-off operations today to reduce the amount of fuel within the area. There was no significant growth on these fires within the last 24 hours.
Bull Complex
The largest fire, west of Alexis Creek, is 8,600 hectares, or 86 square kilometres in size. The fire, 5 kilometres west of Alexis Creek is 30 per cent contained. Crews will continue to work north of Hwy 20 on the east and west flanks of this fire. The fires have been growing in a south-easterly direction.
Place Complex
The fire at Dog Creek, 40 kilometres west of 100 Mile, is 6,600 hectares in size, or 66 square kilometres, and is 20 per cent contained. Smoke in the area is posing a challenge today. Priority areas are the northeast and northwest flanks of the fire.
Pelican Complex
There are multiple fires burning near Pelican Lake, 25 kilometres north of Nazko, which cover a combined area of 11,500 hectares, or 115 square kilometres. Crews will be focusing on constructing machine guard on the west today.
