Cariboo Firefighters Continue to Make Progress

Prince George, B.C.- The Cariboo Fire fighters who have been battling more than a hundred fires over the past couple of weeks are making progress on some of the larger fires  in that region.

Dog Creek :  40 km west of  100 Mile House is now 40% contained

Margeurite Ferry:  2km south of Alexandria is now 1200 hectares and an evacuation alert is in effect.  There are 406 people working on this fire.

Meldrum Creek:  15km west of Williams Lake. The combined  sized of the fires burning in this "complex" is 265 square kilometers.  An evacuation order is in effect.

Pelican Lake:  16 km north of Nazko, There are two fires, one is  11,843 hectares, the other, 2,450 hectares. An evacuation arder is in effect

Quesnel River:  7 Km east of Kersley, 130 hectares.  This fire has not shown any growth

Twan Creek, 40 km west of Williams Lake, 1,900 hectares

West of Alexis Creek (86 km west of Wiliams Lake)  :

  • The fire 5km SW of Alexis Creek is 8,510 hectares. 10% contained. This fire is now a high priority.
  • 5km W of Alexis Creek, 5,106 has, 100 % contained 60% controlled (Aggressive mop-up in many sections.)
  • The fire 20km N of Alexis Creek is 10,000+ hectares and 6km of guard has been laid.
  • 20 km SW of Alexis creek is 1030 hectares.
  • 20 km S of Alexis Creek / south of Stone Reserve is 6.2 & 31.5 hectares are now 100% contained and are now in mop-up.
  • 2km N of Elkin Ck, 45 km SW of Alexis Ck is 20 hectares. 20 firefighters and a piece of heavy equipment are currently working on this fire.
