In life, there are some people who very quietly make a lasting impression. Perhaps better put in a man’s term, they're very tough, unassuming fellows, who don’t say very much, they just go about life getting the job done.
One of those few members of our society, John Scarsbrook, passed away recently.
You were unlikely to read about him in the front page, if anything, he tended to be conspicuously out of the lime light. However, the more than 400 people who attended the service for John, was a testament to the kind of man he was.
John was confined to a wheelchair following a car accident that left him a quadriplegic.
Mr. Justice Ian Meiklem writes:
“John’s accident was on April 30, 1981. In the 24 years since, he was an incredible inspiration for everyone who knew him in demonstrating courage, good humour and a zest for life in the face of his catastrophic injury. He never uttered a word of self pity and nurtured others. His injury, and how he dealt with it ,actually made a giant out of him. But even more remarkable in my opinion, is the devotion and unselfish dedication of his wife Sharon ,who, for those 24 years, also without a word of self pity, cared for him 24/7, hostessed his dozens of friends, assisted him in his business endeavours, and in the end, arranged for his funeral. WOW!
As Doctor Greg Ames said in his eulogy-"Saint Sharon".
