Prince George, B.C. - The 98th annual Prince George Exhibition is off to a wonderful start -- thanks, in part, to Mother Nature, and all the hard work and planning by the organizing committee.
The main gate opened at 10am this morning, kicking off five days of fun at the Exhibition Grounds.
This year's event has all the mainstays that draw the crowds out: the midway, carnival game alley, food fair surrounding the community centre stage, exhibitors in the Kin Centre, animal exhibits, and petting zoo.
Perhaps the scariest ride at the fair this year, is the 'Fire Ball', which 8-year-old Justice Johnson was keen to go on with her mom, Candice.
She was a little less enthusiastic, once the cars actually started moving...a few tears were shed and she needed a big hug after she got off!
While there were quite a few cars in the parking lot and a lot of people milling around on-site as of early this afternoon, there were no long line-ups yet for the rides.
11-year-old Landon Kitchen (at left) and his 9-year-old brother, Colton, are taking everything in with their mom. And for Landon, that means 'taking in' a giant snow cone.
Meanwhile, little Maegan Andersen is getting her face painted by Brielle Cooke at a nearby booth. Maegan's sisters, Nicole and Janel, were being treated to the same experience, courtesy of their mom and dad.
Kin II is filled with exhibitors selling a wide range of goods: everything from pots and pans, to jewellery, to mico-fibre clothes.
Unlike the majority of youngsters on-site, Chance Folsom and Darcy Fehr are hard at work, manning the booth of 'Cottage Creations'. Proprietor Brian Folsom makes custom log furniture from reclaimed beetle kill.
Chance and Darcy have been encouraging all passers-by to have a seat in the handsome, handmade swing. The pair only took a brief break, so Opinion250 could snap a photo. (Chance is on the left, Darcy on the right)
Another local business set up for the duration of PGX, is Blackspruce Farm...
The owners have provided the animals for the petting zoo...kids and their parents are lining up for a chance to feed and nuzzle the goats and donkeys. (Blackspruce Farm offers tours at its farm, located 15-minutes south of the city on Bendixon Road)
