Prince George, B.C.- RCMP have yet to say if the weekend homicide in the VLA was gang related.

Saturday afternoon, police were called to a report of a shooting  in the 2400 block of Oak Street where they came upon the body of a man.

The victim had not been identified as of 7:00 last night. While police have spoken to several witnesses,   there are no suspects in custody, and it is still not clear if this fatal shooting was gang related.

This is the 7th homicide in Prince George this year.   Because this shooting took place  in broad daylight and in a neighbourhood where there are young families, police are particularly concerned.

Prince George RCMP are asking anyone with information in relation to this homicide to contact the Prince George Serious Crime Unit at (250) 561-3300 or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) .

All I know is what I read in the papers. To those folks who will eventually comment about the pictures in the Citizen being upsetting and traumatizing fer their kids, maybe they can lecture their kids so said kids can absorb the potential consequences of joining gangs and other drug related activities. And also unlike their childrens violent video games, this guy doesn't get up and get to "play again".
As an aside, I wouldn't be surprised if the deceased pictured in the paper will be mentioned by friends and acquaintances that he was working on getting his life together when this happened.
I totally agree with you Harbinger. If teenagers see this photo, it may bring a reality into why you should stay away from the gang scene and keep your butt in school. You made a great point about the video games. They are very graphic and the photo is no where near as graphic.
As soon as I saw the pictures on the front page of the paper I thought of the onslaught of complaints that are surely coming down the pike. I feel sorry for the family and in that respect I feel the images were too graphic and will cause a lot of pain. On the other hand we have a gang problem and the public needs to be aware of it and the consequences. This is real and maybe some potential gang bangers might see the pictures and wise up. However I am cynical that any will, they are too caught up in their own pathos to make a change. Hopefully parents and family members/friends can intervene earlier if they see their kids going down this path. The problem is that most of these gang bangers come from less than ideal situations to say the least. As for the faint of heart who bemoan the publishing of these pictures—I say deal with it.This is real and it is going down in our town and hiding it from the public does nothing to bring about a change. I say kudos to the Citizen for having the balls to print the graphic images.
