A fatal head-on collision has closed Highway 97 between Prince George and Quesnel.

RCMP say the deadly crash occurred when a northbound pick-up truck crossed the centre line, into the path of an oncoming semi-truck "B" train unit around 4:30pm this afternoon, approximately 20-kilometres north of Quesnel, near Hush Lake.

Police say both vehicles caught fire as a result of the crash.  The driver of the pick-up truck died at the scene.  The driver of semi has been transported to G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP investigators anticipate Highway 97 will be closed until sometime between 10pm and midnight.

Highways maintenance crews are advising that due to a spun out semi-truck, the Quesnel-Hixon/Olsen Road is closed, as well.

Good thing the semi never crossed the line or we would be looking to penalize all truckers in someway.
