Prince George, B.C. -  An autopsy has been conducted on Prince George's latest murder victim.

The city's 7th homicide of the year occurred in broad daylight on Saturday in the VLA neighbourhood.

RCMP Constable Lesley Smith says an autopsy was carried out on the male victim in Kamloops to make a positive identification and confirm the cause of death.

Constable Smith says the victim's identity may be released to the public this afternoon, pending permission from family members.

In the meantime, she says police continue aggressively investigate -- following up on a number of leads that have come forward from the community.  Smith says these tips have been a huge help to officers' efforts.

The victim's identity is on the front page of today's Citizen. How can they publish his name when it hasn't been released yet? I feel for his family. My sympathies to all of them.
Police have plenty of clues to follow in the search for the Oak Street killer, but many questions are still unanswered for investigators.

On Saturday afternoon, a young male was shot to death at 2408 Oak, in the middle of the afternoon and in front of many on their daily business in the residential neighbourhood.

"RCMP have identified the male but we are not releasing his identity yet due to the need to notify next of kin," said Prince George RCMP spokeswoman Const. Lesley Smith.

The Citizen has learned that the name of the victim is ###### #####, and that it took until 11 p.m. that night for police to make a positive identification of the victim and begin locating his family members, some of whom live in Fort St. John.

"The male (victim) is known to police but we don't know enough about the situation to speculate further," said Smith. "It is unknown if the male was targeted or if he was the victim of ongoing gang-related violence in that area."

The victim of Saturday's shooting in the VLA had a criminal past.

Court documents show ###### ##### #####, who was born in 198#, had served time for a number offences, most of them committed in Fort St. John but also for some in Prince George.
You know, with all these drug busts, You would have to figure that the drug lords will need to deal with those who become informants.

You can not tell me that the police can do a raid on a site as big as the one that was at Giscome, Street value, 20 million dollars. Somebody, somewhere is gonna get whacked sooner or later. If they don't set an example, than you have no control.

Serious, someone is going to come forward and talk. Only if your tired of living.

why did he have to be sent to Kamloops for autopsy ... we have a perfectly good facility here to do it ...

Besides its pretty obvious he died of lead poisoning
Bowzone:
I think, not sure, but Dr. Rice transferred there a few years ago, best forensic pathologist in the province, sharp lady in her field.
We have a morgue that does autopsies, but Kamloops is the closest center that does forensic autopsies. All homicides, or possible homicides dont' even stop over at our hospital, but are brought directly down to Kamloops.
