Prince George, B.C. - Members of the Pineview Fire Department were called out to Highway 97, south of Prince George, this afternoon to help extinguish a blaze at the side of the road...
Three trucks responded to the scene of the mishap at Highway 97 and Leno Road, but fortunately damage to the trailer was kept to a minimum and the fire did not spread to the tinder dry grass near the shoulder of the road.
Prince George resident, Herb Keibel, was driving his van with his travel trailer attached, when he noticed the trailer brakes seemed to be locked on.
By the time he pulled over, Keibel says the tires were on fire in the trailer's wheel wells. He and a passing motorist emptied their extinguishers, before firefighters arrived to finish the job.
Keibel says, fortunately, damage was limited to the wheel wells and there was some smoke damage on the exterior, but the interior is fine. However, he says, his planned vacation to visit friends in Lillooet is now off. He was waiting for a tow truck to arrive for the trailer.
The incident caused minor delays on the highway.
