Bear wearing "collar" like the one  found two weeks ago.
Prince George, B.C. – The Urban Bear Research project will be trying to trap a bear in the College Heights area this week but  not because there is an issue with a nuisance bear, rather that the project needs a new “subject”.

It was recently discovered that one of the three collared bears that are part of the Urban Bear Research Project dropped her GPS collar, which is what allowed biologists used to track her.

“Irene”  an urban bear that has a home range in College Heights, was collared in the summer of 2009. The collar, which she slipped off her neck in June, was located and retrieved about two weeks ago. The stored data in the collar showed that Irene emerged from her winter den on April 18, and sightings have told the project she has three cubs.

Fortunately, the collar is in great condition and has since been re-programmed and is ready to be put on another bear.

Trapping for the project will begin again this week in the College Heights area. If you see a culvert trap, or signs saying a trap is in the area, please leave the way you came, and do not approach the trap.

The bear went over the moun-tain the bear went over the moun-tain...there are lots of bears out and about these days, they are all around Edgewood Terrace and North Nechako road, as well as by the Scales up the Hart, lots and lots, be extra careful if walking your dog or just walking, the city is infested with bears this year. and they don't seem to be concerned about us at all.

Take Care everyone.
Infested? Well this is bear country!
well, i guess, its time to open up bear hunting. Get them thinking we like them and they start coming closer and closer, And then BAM,.... Bear pepperoni for everyone.
If I see a bear which I did the other day I will not tell anyone because these do gooders will just shoot the poor thing.
Chris, it's the "do-gooders" that want to keep every bear in the world alive, not dead.
Must be the high Quality of Garbage in College Heights so the Bears keep coming back.
It would be nice to see our good city take on some of the rules Whistler does when it comes to bear attractants. A little bit of effort by both the residents of Prince George and City staff would make life easier for the bears and the people.
Tons of bears in my neighborhood, people are over-reacting. Has there ever been an attack in a residential area of PG?......ever?
I doubt it govsux. So whats the big deal? We can co-exist and make pepperoni too. No reason to scare them (or carry them) away. Makes it harder to find them when we chase them out of town.. I use a bow--it's silent.
Well they like to visit my yard often even though I have no food for them... its where I live and they often move along after a rest... I don't worry about it much its a nice spot to rest and I don't blame them... unless they make noise trying to get into the garbage can and I'm trying to sleep, then the light comes on and I open the door and grumble a little bit like I'm mad, and they run off to do their thing somewhere else.

No matter how many bears get destroyed we will always have bears coming around in this town, so we should all just learn to be aware and respectful of them and enjoy the experience when you do see them.

I've never heard of a black bear attacking anyone in this town... heard of one that climbed in a kitchen window up Cranbrook hill last year, but that's about the extent of it and a rarity.
was campbell in it ?
