NDP Leader Hopes Liberals Learned Labour Lesson

With collective agreements covering approximately 270, 000 public sector employees in B.C. up for re-negotiation this year, the Leader of the Official Opposition has some suggestions for the Liberals as they get set to head to the bargaining table...

Speaking in Prince George where she's holding a caucus meeting for all 33 NDP M.L.A.s, Carole James says, "Well, I certainly hope that the Premier and the government learned a lesson through the teachers dispute this fall."

James says, "We saw the government use the same tactic that it used during its first four years, which was confrontation.  They caused the dispute, they continued to fuel the fire when the dispute was going on, instead of doing what they should have done in the first place, which was have a mediator come in and resolve the dispute."

"So I certainly hope that the government has learned and that we see a different attitude taken to the bargaining table," says the NDP Leader, "They really need to sit down and work with our labour organizations, so that we can get a good collective agreement in place that looks at ability to pay for the taxpayers and looks at fair wage for our employees."

I agree with Carole James, MLA. I also hope both parties have learned a lesson and approach negotiations with a different attitude at the bargaining table. I would prefer to see the words "Demands" and "Official Opposition" deleted from everyones agenda. Percy
So now the Liberals are at fault are they?. Why didn't the N.D.P. give them any more money? Because we don't have any more. If the governments (federal, provincial, and local) would quit wasting money on all the special interest groups and tree huggers maybe we could afford to pay the teachers more.
There are three sides to every negotiation (dispute) Their side, our side and the mediator's side.

One side can't really appreciate the other sides view until they have been their themselves.

So, a third perspective quite often is a solution. Percy
