New BC Forest Council Co-Chair A Busy Man

The newly-appointed Co-Chair of the B.C. Forest Safety Council definitely has his work cut out for him...
Not only has Lee Doney just been appointed to a two-year term at the Council, overlapping current Chair Jim Shepherd's tenure, whice expires at the end of March. Just this past Friday, the Office of the Premier announced Doney had been retained as special advisor for labour bargaining.
Collective agreements for approximately 270,000 public sector employees are up for renegotiation over the next eight months, with most set to expire prior to March 31st.
Doney was Deputy Minister of Forests in B.C. from 1999 to 2001 and was the lead negotiator for the Softwood Lumber Treaty with the United States. He also served as a deputy in the Ministry of Skills, Training and Labour prior to his retirement in 2004.
Currently, Doney is on the board of Western Forest Products and runs his own consulting firm specializing in industrial relations.
In his position as Co-Chair of the B.C. Forest Safety Council, Doney will be charged with guiding activities that strive to meet the Council's mandate of eliminating fatalities and injuries in the forest industry. The Council is funded by the industry as a partnership of forest companies, manufacturers and workers.
