I don't get it... if its an open vote, its up to the individual MP to represent his constituents and not Jack Layton to decide.
Its a choice between a corrupted police state over run with criminals that can commit crimes with impunity... or on the other hand a state of the people ruled by the rule of law where criminals have an element of fear in their crimes. Its a pretty easy choice in my opinion and has nothing to do with shooting ones own foot.

I think it has to do with way he is going to vote after much dithering and posturing:
Left foot = left of center
Right foot = right of center
Abstain = save the ammunition and a foot!
(Don't believe for one minute that the MPs of ANY party will have any REAL choice which way to vote as they have already been told this way or the highway!).

They say it will be an open vote...but any MP who knows which side his bread is buttered on,will know which way he is SUPPOSED to vote!
They also know what the end result will be if they don't!
Simply more political smoke and mirrors!

If they vote against the leader they get booted out of caucus but they still retain their seat and their pension. Why would they worry about that? They will get re-elected if they vote according to their constituents. Problem is---have any of them really asked more than 20 suck-ups who go to the riding meetings?
