Prince George, B.C.- A UNBC student from Houston has scored a top prize at a special competition in Vancouver.

Fourth-year Biochemistry and Molecular Biology student Randi Woodbeck went to the Rising Stars of Research competition last month thinking she would have some fun and meet fellow students.
“Actually winning the award came as a big, and obviously pleasant surprise “ says Woodbeck whose research involves searching for enzymes that can destroy the genes that cause cancer.

Co-sponsored by UNBC and 6 other organizations, it is an opportunity for young researchers to present their work to a broad audience and develop their presentation skills. It also gives student a chance to make some important connections with other researchers and potential employers.
She is the third undergrad majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology who has received national level recognition for their research achievements.
