Smithers, B.C.- Residents in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District will have a chance to comment on a proposed mine this week.
The B.C. Environmental Assessment Office is holding a series of public forums on the Morrison copper, gold, and molybdenum project spearheaded by Pacific Booker Minerals. The company wants to develop an open pit mine and milling operation east of Morrison Lake, approximately 35 km north of Granisle and has filed for its environmental assessment certificate.
The proposed operation would produce about 11 million tonnes of ore per year over the expected mine life of 21 years. The company estimates that the capital costs of the proposed mine would be over $517 million.
Open houses are scheduled from 5 p.m. until 8:30 today at the Burns Lake Chamber of Commerce, Tuesday at Mammoth Lodge in Granisle, and Wednesday at Hudson Bay Lodge in Smithers.
Pacific Booker Minerals will also be at the meetings to talk about the proposed mine.
Written submissions on the company’s environmental assessment certificate application can be submitted online, by fax, or by mail until September 30th.

It will be all about MONEY and JOBS. To hell with the environment and the future. Why debate it? It will get crammed through no matter what we think.
You really think that Municca? If that was the case, there would be several new mines opened up by now. Instead, every new mine proposal has been held up in court or in enviornmental review or in treaty claims. This mine, if it goes ahead, will not be going for at least 5-10 years.
