Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George Air Quality Improvement Roundtable  (PG AIR) says it has made significant progress on the implementation of the 42 recommendations from the Phase II plan.
In its annual report to Council, PG AIR  says it has completed  or has started the implementation of 40 of the 42 recommendations.
·         26% (11) of the recommendations have been completed;
·         69% (29) of the recommendations had been implemented and are in progress; and
·         5% (2) of the recommendations required implementation.
PG AIR says there have been improvements to the air quality in Prince George:
·         81% decrease in TRS (odour) at the Plaza site between 1987 and 2008

·         24% decrease in PM10 levels at the Plaza site between 1995 and 2008

·         A 31% decrease in PM2.5 levels at the Plaza site between 2003 and 2008

But there is still a great deal of work to be done. PG AIR President George Stedeford says the committee continues to work on the phase III plan which is aimed at matching the provincial targets for pm 2.5. and achieving the following goals:

·         Aspirational 40% reduction of all significant (industry, mobile, wood burning), emission sources by 2016

·         Synchronize with BC continuous improvement target for ambient PM2.5of 6μg/m3 by 2013 (annual average was 6.9 μg/m3 in 2009).

By December 31, 2016, the following should be achieved:
·         annual average PM2.5 ambient target of 5 μg/m3.

Achieving these targets would place PG in the top third of communities in BC with clean air by 2016.

Sure does'nt smell like it to me. After spending a few days in the east and west Kootneys, we came home to the great smell of the pulp mills and the refinery and a smog over the bowl. Reminded me of when I moved here in 68.
Ya! Spin baby Spin!
"Achieving these targets would place PG in the top third of communities in BC with clean air by 2016."

What total nonesense!!!

The entire list of communities in BC is a moving target. Most that are on the higher side are trying to lower their actual monitored level the same as we are. Unless we improve faster than some others, we will continue to be at or near the top.

The measurement of improvement from 1995 to 2008 is a meaningless measurement. The fogure can go up or down if it is compared to 2009, or the starting year is taken as 1996, because the whole thing is very weather dependent.

For instance, it is interesting that the 1995 to 2008 relation is to 2008 when there is an annual average given for 2009.

In other words, they have the 2009 data but do not use it in the long term comparison.

It is total spin. Several years ago there was a considerable drop, then the weather pattern changed again and all of a sudden the so called improvement went out the window just like that when for several years it was back to some of the earlier figures.

As far as I am concerned the only meaningful data is to see the entire profile for the period examined.
Lessons from the Liberals?
There is no reason Why should we have to worry about clean air. What we need to worry about is where are the profits going that are made by the polluters of our air quality. We need to worry about when we will stop being suckered by the elitists at City Hall.

We are fed all this propaganda on how we can fix the air quality and the City will be another polluter with the white elephant they are building to warm their buts at City hall with the phony bio energy project.
