Prince George, B.C. -  Let the season of bench-warming for parents begin...

The Prince George Minor Hockey Association's evaluation sessions are underway this weekend, in preparation for the start of the regular season in October.

Players in the Initiation Division -- seven- and eight-years-old -- have three ice times this weekend for scrimmage games.

It gives the coaches a chance to assess their skating ability and skill level, in hopes of  slotting them into the appropriate level within the division, and balancing the teams.

It does make for a very busy weekend for some parents.

The parking lot at the Elks Centre was bustling at ice change times, and, by 11:30am this morning, one mom with three boys was on her fifth trip to the rink.

So, as the youngsters excitedly take to the ice, the parents dutifully take their position on the benches, where the heat lamps have, thankfully, been turned on.
