Bif Naked (Beth Torbert) and event organizer Monica Peacock put their heads together for some final thoughts  before Bif took to the stage to addess the crowd.

Prince George, B.C.- Tonight, Prince George turned out for the 6th anual Evening of Pink.  The dinner, dance, silent auction, 50-50 draw and  raffle event, is a fundraiser  to battle breast cancer.Evening of Pink

About 500 people   turned out for the event, and to hear Bif Naked talk about  her personal experience battling breast cancer.

In the crowd, City Councillors, the  Mayor,  Cabinet Ministers,  business owners, Northern Health representatives, but no one was more important than the 44 breast cancer survivors who  attended the event.

The theme this year was "To Fly Again." Representative of this theme are the butterfly and ribbon. As Monica puts it:"Once we are challenged with illness, death or injury, whether we are a patient, husband daughter, family member, friend or co-worker, we all have to  'fly again."

The idea for the Evening of Pink came about as the result of loss. The loss of a beautiful young woman to Breast Cancer; Marianna was 34 years of age and left behind a 16 year old daughter. Out of the loss however arose inspiration. Monica Peacock was inspired to do something to help make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. Part of the problem, as she saw it, stemmed from a lack of awareness in young people regarding the threat of breast cancer. Monica believed the best way to increase youth awareness was to get them actively involved. Thus, the Evening of Pink came into being.

There are now anywhere from 25 - 30 young men and women involved in the dinner with 2009 marking the five year anniversary. It has become a true community event with all funds raised staying within Prince George.

There are three main goals for the dinner:

  1. Raise youth awareness about breast cancer
  2. Increase community awareness, get them involved
  3. Raise funds for equipment purchases at The University Hospital of Northern B.C., Prince George

The evening itself is a night of Celebrations and Memories, sharing laughter, tears, smiles, and hugs.

All funds raised will be used to upgrade the operating rooms at the University  Hospital of Northern B.C.  to meet the needs  required by the  new Northern Cancer Care  Centre.

Great idea, great cause, nice to see that it was not a photo opt for cabinet Ministers, it was all about the 44 breast cancer survivors and their family friends and others whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer. They make it possible for others to "Fly Again"
Great event. My mother and a sister have had breast cancer. Supertech, really now ,did you have to do it! Get a life.
When I was looking at the pic of hizzoner, I said to myself, "He's looking like he is just finishing the song, I Did It My Way".
Shame on you Harbinger to take an opportunity like this event to take a pot shot at the mayor. Give it a break. Is that all you can do is find fault?

Have a great day!
LOL Harbinger
