Quesnel, B.C. - Search efforts began over the weekend, and continue, in a bid to find an 83-year-old woman missing from her home near the small First Nations community of Nazko, west of Quesnel.
Concerned family members discovered Ruth Hjorth (in photo provided by RCMP) missing from her Trout Lake residence on Saturday. RCMP say Hjorth suffers from dementia.
Police say while it is not uncommon for Hjorth to take walks on her property with her dogs, it is unusual for her not to return home.
Quesnel Search and Rescue, Quesnel RCMP, the RCMP's Police Dog Services, along with members of her family and the community, have been scouring the area, 100-kilometres west of Quesnel, since discovering she was missing.
Police say, so far, there have been no indications as to the senior citizen's whereabouts.
Hjorth is described as approximately five-feet, five-inches tall, and weighs 130-pounds. She has gray hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Quesnel RCMP detachment at 250-992-9211.
