A Prince George RCMP Traffic Analyst spent approximately three hours investigating the scene of a three-vehicle collision on Highway 97, near Houghtaling Road, in the Hart that sent five people to PGRH.

RCMP says the crash occurred when a northbound Ford Explorer clipped the edge of the shoulder, lost control, veered across the highway and into oncoming traffic.

Police says the Explorer was struck on the passenger's side by a southbound Ford Expedition, and then a GMC Jimmy also became involved in the collision.

Fire/Rescue and Highway Rescue had to use the jaws of life to extricate a passenger trapped in the back-seat of the Explorer.

There were three people in the Explorer and just drivers in each of the other SUVs.  B.C. Ambulance says three people arrived at hospital in critical condition, the two others had serious injuries.

Police say personal information had not yet been collected, so names and hometowns aren't known at this point.

The crash closed Highway 97 for almost an hour just before 11am this morning.

Something needs to be done about Yellowhead Road and Bridge IMO. Their work is not done to even a low standard.

It is always interesting that you go from atrocious road conditions on the PG side of the road maintenance boundary to good road conditions in the span of a few feet when leaving the PG highway district. Last night highway 16 had horrible conditions and not a single plow out working the roads. The least they could do is some up keep on the Mud River hill IMO.
My daughter drove in from the south today and she said the highways were great from Cache Creek to Hixon and just terrible from Hixon to P.G. Is it just this area that has bad maintenance? It is usually bad from here to Bednesti also.
