Prince George, B.C. -  Bring on the borscht...

The 29th annual Mennonite Fall Fair runs today at the Civic Centre from 10am until 4pm.  Administrative Officer, Wendy Herring, says organizers expect to ladle up approximately 1200 bowls of soup over the course of the day.

The fair's offerings are divided distinctly between 'new' and items being recycled.

On the new side, there's fresh baking, produce, fair trade coffee and the '10,000 Villages' fair trade crafts for sale.  While items being offered for recycling include:  used clothing, used books and a garage sale. If attendance today is anything like previous years, thousands will stop by to peruse the sale.

Herring says the church has a three-fold mission with the annual event:  1. to raise funds for world relief efforts, 2. to give a portion of the money raised back to local charities, like Ness Lake Bible Camp, and 3. to give members of the large church an opportunity to meet outside of Sunday services and "work elbow-to-elbow" together.

She says about 90-percent of the proceeds of today's fall fair will go to world relief efforts.

Herring says, "Last year, we were able to give about $25-thousand dollars to Mennonite Central Committee for world relief and, I believe, $35-hundred dollars, locally."
