Williams Lake, B.C. - A male suspect well-known to police is in custody in connection with a stabbing outside a Williams Lake convenience store.

RCMP say the male victim was stabbed several times after a war of words escalated to physical violence.  Police say the victim had been standing with a group of friends outside the store, when he got into a verbal exchange with the suspect, who was driving by.

RCMP say the suspect identified himself as a possible affiliate of a local aboriginal gang and, then, allegedly began stabbing the victim with a knife.

The victim phoned 911, before his friends took him to hospital.  He was treated at Cariboo Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Based on the suspect and vehicle description, RCMP officers located a male and took him into custody after a brief foot chase.

Police say the man had two outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.  He's facing charges of assault with a weapon and obstructing a police officer in connection with this latest incident.

It's good that the caught this guy so quickly, but why isn't it possible to catch him for the outstanding warrents before something like this happens, and why wouldn't he be charged with attempted murder rather than assault. Get losers like this off the street.
Looks to me like some one failed their "non-violent conflict resolution course". Bummer! Make him take it again.
Another case of attempted murder that will be turned into a misdemeanor by our misguided 'justice system'.
