Prince George, B.C. -  In a news release issued Sunday afternoon, Prince George RCMP say they've launched an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the treatment of a female prisoner.

The investigation surrounds the arrest of a Prince George woman on August 27th of this year.  Prince George RCMP Detachment Commander, Superintendent Brenda Butterworth-Carr says the woman was arrested for causing a disturbance and was transported to the Prince George RCMP cells.

Butterworth-Carr says concerns have been raised surrounding the care and handling of the prisoner during the booking process while in custody.  She says video of the incident has been reviewed and an internal code of conduct investigation ordered to determine if RCMP policy was breached by the one female and two male RCMP members involved.

The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP has advised that the woman has filed a complaint with the commission and its investigation is underway.

Butterworth-Carr says, "It's important for us to determine the facts in this case, especially because there are rumours circulating in the community that are both concerning and inaccurate."

She continues, "For example, some people are identifying police officers who weren't even on-shift that day."  The RCMP superintendent says, "It is important for people to know that their concerns have been heard and I am committed to ensuring a thorough investigation is conducted."

tl;dr
Why do they bother doing these internal investigations? Useless waste of time. We have seen umpteen of these investigations that always turn out the same -- time off with pay. The public will never accept the outcome so why the smoke and mirrors show?

Chris; Nice rant. You are at least speaking your mind and I think it's in the charter that you can because it is your opinion, however, you cannot slander anyone personally. I have had relatives in the force, now retired, and I, as well as you, am appalled at the 'look after your own' policy and the cover ups. We will never change it until this sad country has a revolution (which we desperately need). We also need a 'Cromwell' but that's another story in a later rant.
You know, there may be absolutely nothing to this complaint or there may some substance to it, at least they are being up front about it.
I am concerned that someone from the PG Detachment is doing the investigation.

While the investigator may be new to the area and may not have biases at this point, she is certainly in an awkward position.

Human nature creates the need to be liked by ones peers - and the outcome of this investigation will effect the investigators standing among her new peers.

This is exactly why outside investigators are supposed to be used.

we NEED an independant investagation board specificly for RCMP aligations of misconduct.
internal investigation is a JOKE
"She continues, "For example, some people are identifying police officers who weren't even on-shift that day."

Yes... and the man tazered at the Vancouver airport was threatening the officers..... Trial by media has failed the RCMP in the past.
