Prince George, B.C.- EnCana , which has been the target of gas pipeline bombings in the Tom’s Lake area near Dawson Creek , has been charged with two counts under the B.C. Environmental Act.
The charges stem from an alleged leak of hydrogen sulphide in November of last year in that same area. The charges are not related in any way to the rash of bombings,. During this incident, 18 people in the Pouce Coupe region had to leave their homes on November 22nd because of a leak in an EnCana gas line. Although the residents first noticed the smell of sour gas around 2:30 in the morning, the incident wasn't reported until about 6 hours later and the site was shut down by 10:45 that same morning.
Encana is facing one count of allowing waste to enter the environment, the second charge is for failing to immediately report the incident.
The charge were sworn on September 13th, and the first court appearance is slated for October 13th in Fort St. John.
