Bella Coola, B.C. – The sun is coming out for residents in the Bella Coola Valley both figuratively and literally.
The weather is clearing up and flood waters from torrential rains are starting to recede. As a result, the Central Coast Regional District has rescinded evacuation orders for the Bella Coola Valley. Officials say there have been no injuries or serious issues despite the severe flooding.
Access to the isolated community is also improving. The Bella Coola Airport has re-opened and Tweedsmuir Travel is coordinating outgoing travel for residents and non-residents alike. The CCRD says planning for long-term transportation of goods and supplies are underway.
The Hagensborg Waterworks system is now back in operation, although a boil water advisory is still in effect for residents using it.
The Bella Coola Medical Clinic is reopening Wednesday morning for people that need some medical attention.
The regional district is advising people to stay in safe areas, conserve electricity, restrict vehicle use, and to only go to the hospital ER for emergencies.
