Prince George, B.C. -Parent Advisory Councils for schools in Prince George have been advised the gaming grants to their groups will total a little more than a quarter of a million dollars this year.

Activities that gaming grants support include school drama and chess clubs, writing, debating and music competitions, and student societies, as well as student travel in B.C. Newsletters, yearbooks, playground and sports equipment, awards, trophies, scholarships and bursaries are also funded through these grants.

Funding is also provided to district parent advisory councils (DPACs) to build relationships and promote effective communication among schools, parents, students and the community. Eligible uses for this funding are educational and promotional materials, as well as administration and travel to DPAC meetings.

DPACs are composed of members from each PAC in a district. DPACs receive grants of $2,500 every year, while PAC grants are based on the respective schools' student enrolment and are paid annually at $20 per student.

The allocation of grants included $450 dollars to Dunster, a school whose future was not certain until this week when School District 57 agreed to sell the closed rural school to the Dunster School of Fine Arts Society.  The selling price was $39,500. In an unprecedented move, School District 57 will hold the mortgage on the property. The sale is to be complete by November 1st.

Hmmm--Dunster school of fine arts? 1018 people as of Aug. 2010. Good on Ya Dunster. I'm sure the school of fine arts is most important for that area. According to certain stats, Dunster, McBride and the surrounding area was mostly populated by draft dodgers and flower children of the 60's.
