Prince George, B.C.- School District #57  has received  $30,000 in School Community Connections (SCC) grants from the province for two special projects.

  • $20,000 will  go towards Carney Hill Elementary to establish a restorative practices circle room that incorporates aboriginal culture in the school and community.
  •  $10,000 will allow School District #57 to partner with Fraser-Fort George Regional District to conduct a Neighbourhood Learning Centre feasibility study for Giscome, Hixon and Nikko Lake.
“Schools are already places that families gather for part of the day. It just makes good sense to look at how we better utilize these facilities and incorporate other community programs,” says Prince George – Valemount MLA Shirley Bond. “I am particularly encouraged to see the work that will be done exploring greater community use of our rural schools. This would be a practical way to avoid additional rural school closures."

Neighbourhood Learning Centres respond to community interests and may include a wide variety of programs and resources including child-care programs, sports programs, office space, health clinics, seniors’ centres and family resource centres.

Money for Studies and Circles, do you ever have Problems , you can't be helped.
Hey, that is better to what they did to the "old high school" property in Valemount. They want to build a casino. Shame on us! It was zoned Public/Institutional with potential for just that. Pave paradise and put up a parking lot.

We had a great little spot, but all we got was this lousy T-shirt.
