Youth Called Upon to Help Honour Terry's Legacy

Prince George, B.C.- Youth from across the country are being invited to help design a special memorial site marking the spot where Terry Fox started his Marathon of Hope to raise funds for cancer research.
The memorial will be located in St. John’s Newfoundland, where Terry dipped his leg in the Atlantic in 1980 as he started his cross country marathon.
A special competition will be conducted in two parts:
First, youth will be asked to share their thoughts and ideas on “What Terry Fox means to me”. Two quotes, ( one in English the other in French) will be chosen from all the entries.
Secondly, young Canadians are invited to submit a design concept which shows their interpretation of the route Terry Fox followed from St. John’s Newfoundland to Thunder Bay Ontario, where Terry was forced to end his journey because the cancer which had taken his leg, had spread to his lungs.
The three youths who submitted the chosen works and a parent or guardian will be brought to Ottawa in the Fall to participate in an event where the selected quotes and route design will be announced.
"Terry's dream has been shared and embraced by close to 3 million students participating in the annual Terry Fox National School Run Day," said Betty and Rolly Fox, parents of Terry Fox. "We are delighted that youth from across Canada will be involved in developing the Mile 0 site where Terry began his Marathon of Hope."
The challenge runs now through to October 22, 2010.
