Prince George, B.C. – Tomorrow the CIBC Run for the Cure will hit the streets of Prince George. This annual event is the single largest one day fundraising event to raise dollars for breast cancer research, programs and support for those with this disease.
Last year, the Prince George event raised $132,000. Co-organizer of the run, Gordon Wilson says they are well in stride to surpass that amount.
The Prince George event is one of 9 taking place in B.C. today and will get underway at 10:00 at the Civic Centre although Wilson says there are plenty of activities underway before the actual 5km or 1 km walk /run officially starts.
Breast cancer accounts for 28 % of all cancers diagnosed in Canadian women and the risk of developing breast cancer increases with every birthday. This year in B.C. about 2,800 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, that’s 100 more than were diagnosed last year, and 640 will lose their battle with the disease.
There is still time to make a pledge for the run, simply go to www.cbcf.org for details.
