Prince George, B.C.- The City of Prince George has provincial support for the 2015 Winter Games.
Mayor Dan Rogers says he was very pleased to hear the Premier make the support pledge public in his address to the UBCM on Friday. In that speech, the Premier said “I want Prince George to know this. You've got a big partner in the Province of British Columbia. We're going to make these the best Canada Winter Games that the country has ever remembered. We're going to make sure that all British Columbians are part of them. We're going to make sure you show them the northern capital of British Columbia, the northern future of British Columbia. We celebrate our artists, we celebrate our athletes and everyone knows in 2015 the Canada Winter Games are coming to Prince George, British Columbia.”
Mayor Rogers says while the Premier didn’t attach any dollar figure to that announcement, it was great to hear the commitment “We understand we represent the province of British Columbia and we look forward to working with the various Ministries to see how we can look at a multitude of benefits to see that these games are as great a success as we envision.”
The Winter Games Bid Committee is in the process of developing a Winter Games Society. There will be a meeting with the Canada Games Council later this month.
