Prince George, B.C.-  Thousands of B.C. Hydro customers   from Haida Gwaii through to Grande Prairie remain without power this hour following a powerful windstorm that swept through the region earlier today.

There are reports of roofs being ripped off in Prince Rupert, and downed trees blocking highway 16 between Terrace and Smithers. There are also reports of power lines down on the Nisga’a highway from 30 – 50 kms north of Terrace.

Drive BC   had reported  hydro lines were down  20 km south of Big Cedar Bridge to Big Cedar Bridge (20 km). The road was reduced to single lane alternating traffic. Check with Drive B.C. for the latest information. www.drivebc.ca

While B.C. Hydro is hopeful of restoring power to many communities by late this evening,  there are some areas which may not have electricity until some time tomorrow.

I'm surprised our power stayed on during those big winds. BC Hydro must be doing their job removing problem trees beforehand. Thanks from the Hart.
