Three Historic Sites in Cariboo In For Upgrades

Quesnel, B.C. - The federal and provincial governments have announced funding of more than $700,000 for three projects that will put unemployed resource workers in the Cariboo region back on the job. Funding is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund and the Job Opportunities Program.
The funding will support improvements at Cottonwood House, Hat Creek ranch and Barkerville, with 21 workers in the region gaining short-term job experience.
The Board of Education of School District 28 (Cottonwood House): Seven workers will be employed to complete installation of a wheelchair accessible washroom, painting and reparation of buildings, installation or removal of fencing, and
trail and forest maintenance at the Cottonwood House Historic Site.

Provincial Funding: $168,831
Total Funding: $250,000Note: An additional $100,000 is being provided to School District 28 through the Tuition Assistance Program under the Community Development Trust to coordinate and deliver a Heritage Restoration Certificate to workers restoring the three heritage sites.
Friends of Historic Hat Creek Ranch: Seven workers will be employed to complete repairs to eight historic buildings and three non-historic buildings including painting, roofing; repairs to walls, floors, windows and trim; building of storm windows and re-chinking of log structures.

Barkerville Heritage: Seven workers will be employed to restore three heritage buildings on the Barkerville Heritage Site: Sam Toy, Mok Wo, and Lowhee Shed.
